Disclaimer: Most all of this is going to be my own ramblings with little to no facts backing anything up. Still, some of it makes sense and I feel inclined to make it public, even though I'm pulling it out of my ass. Also, my Donnie Darko plot summary might not be entirely accurate, but that what I got out of it.
Saturday night my friends and I gathered to watch Donnie Darko. For those who haven't seen the movie, it's one of the strangest/demented on record, but a very good one nonetheless.
At the center of the plot revolves the subject of Time Travel. Donnie can supposedly see into an altered future for short stints before returning to reality. In the end, he accomplishes the travel and dies.
So this got me thinking... is time travel possible?
If indeed time travel is possible, perhaps one from the future would have harnessed the abilty to utilize it. If this be the case, one can reasonably surmise the person would travel back in time. In going back in time, he takes the knowledge of his civilization with him.
If he were to give the said information to a pioneer, it would undoubtibly alter the course of the future. This can go two was:
- The travel may not now exist, causing a pardox
- The traveler exists and more travelers go back in time, bringing more advanced technology with them (because the previous technology brough back evloved into the new technology brough back, ad infinitum).
Either way, I cannot see either premise evident in today's world. Thus, I surmise that time travel is impossible, or as least if it is possible, no one in the future of mankind will find a way to utilize it.
Of course, I could be and probably am wrong. These are just the thoughts that go though my head.
